A short and easy hike leads from the Cinque Torri Refuge to the Scoiattoli Refuge: both face the 5 Torri, a paradise for climbers from all over the world. The Cinque Torri refuge can be reached on foot or by car via the Great Dolomites Road SS 48: about 11 km from the centre of Cortina, in the district of Cianzopè*, turn left into a small road. At the Cinque Torri refuge, take path no.439. In less than 30 minutes you will reach the mountain saddle, from where you can see the Scoiattoli refuge. From the panorama terrace of this refuge, you can admire the mountaineers on the climbing walls of the 5 Torri; this refuge is also in close proximity to the 5 Torri Open Air Museum of WW1. The highly recommended visit to the museum, with its trenches and restored positions, takes about an hour.
* Please note: the road in Cianzopè that takes you to the Cinque Torri refuge on foot or by car is open in summer, with the exception of the entire month of August and until 15 September when it is closed to cars from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For the month of August, a paid shuttle service is activated. Find out more about the opening times of the road that could change by calling the office of the Regole d'Ampezzo: +39 0436-2206.
