The magic of the 5 Torri

The 5 Torri (Five Towers) are undoubtedly one of the symbols of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Thanks to their particular rock formation, they are immediately recognizable from all other peaks or valleys in the surrounding area and are thus a tourist magnet.

Geology, history and cinema

Geology enthusiasts can study the particular shape of the 5 Torri and try to understand their formation process.

Those interested in history can visit the World War I open-air museum, the largest in the Dolomites, which demonstrates the soldiers' life during the cruel years of the First World War when Austrian and Italian troops battled each other relentlessly in this valley and on the surrounding mountains. Nothing illustrates the terms "trench warfare", "the misery of the soldiers" or "heavy artillery" better than a walk through the restored trenches between the 5 Torri, the Lagazuoi and the Sasso di Stria.

Furthermore, film fans can recognize the mountain scenes from their favourite films in this landscape.
