Lights, cameras, action!

Cortina d’Ampezzo and its mountains have always been a magnet for celebrities and filmmakers.

Films with Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Ingrid Bergman and Clark Gable and many other famous actors were shot here. Due to their undeniable peculiarity, the 5 Torri are the perfect filming location for mountain scenes in every season. The scenery is made of high mountains, pristine nature, climbing walls and the wonderful winter panorama of the snow-covered valley below.

Since 1924, the 5 Torri have been a popular location for films such as Mountain of Destiny (German: Berg des Schicksals), a silent film with Luis Trenker directed by Arnold Fanck, The Giant of the Dolomites (Italian: Il gigante delle Dolomiti) is a 1927 Italian silent adventure film directed by Guido Brignone, Vacanze di Natale ("Christmas Holidays"), a series of farcical comedy films directed by Carlo Vanzina (1983), The Bear, a 1988 French adventure drama family film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud and Fantozzi in Paradiso (Fantozzi in Heaven), the eighth film of the “Fantozzi" film series by Nero Parenti released in 1993.

For the sixth season of the Italian TV series “Un passo dal cielo”, in English: One Step from Heaven (2021), the story of the forest guard commander Francesco Neri, played by Daniele Liotti, was resumed at the 5 Torri.

A curiosity: the "Bivouac Neri", home of the main character Francesco Neri, is located near the Scoiattoli refuge. The building was built specifically for this TV series. It was dismantled after the shooting of the movie but it is still possible to visit the spectacular location from where you can enjoy an incredible view of the Cinque Torri and the famous climbing walls. The place can be easily reached with the 5 Torri chairlift or on foot with a hike from Baita Bai de Dones.

James Bond 007 fans can see Cortina and the surrounding area in the film For Your Eyes Only, directed by John Glen, 1981, and in one of the most successful films of recent years, Solo: a Star Wars Story (directed by Ron Howard, 2018).

At the Giau Pass was shot an exciting scene from the famous film Ladyhawke. It was directed in 1985 by Richard Donner, starring Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Alfred Molina, Leo McKern and Ken Hutchison.

A curiosity - in Spider Man: Far from home, shot in 2019, the bus in which Peter Parker's class is travelling is supposed to cross Austria. Actually, he is running on the Great Dolomites Road - SS 48, which leads to the 5 Torri and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the passes and mountain saddles of the Dolomites.
