Gourmet terraces

The short and easy ascent from the Scoiattoli refuge to the Averau refuge provides a breathtaking view of the area towards the Giau pass and Val Fiorentina, characterized by the giant mountains Civetta and Marmolada. Both mountain refuges are known for their excellent cuisine and are worth a stop: for lunch, for a snack or dinner, when the Dolomites shine pink in the Alpenglow (Enrosadira).

The Scoiattoli Refuge can be reached with the 5 Torri chairlift or on foot from Baita Bai de Dones*.
The kitchen of the Scoiattoli refuge prepares traditional, skilfully reinterpreted dishes from the Ampezzo area. You simply must try the “Violette ai sapori del bosco” (“Violets with flavours from the woods”), a delicious home-made pasta flavoured with bilberries. One of the highlights of this refuge are the homemade desserts, many of them based on fresh cottage cheese. You must try the chocolate salami with vanilla cream and the "Squirrel Meringue". From the Scoiattoli refuge you can reach in about 30 minutes the Averau refuge, which is known for its excellent cuisine with dishes where the Ampezzo tradition meets the Friulian one. The “Cappelli dell’Alpino”, the “Cialsons” and the aromatic pheasant and broccoli timbale are particularly popular. In the well-stocked wine cellar, there are up to 170 fine Italian and European labels to choose from.

*From Baita Bai De Dones past the Cinque Torri refuge to the Scoiattoli refuge
The hike starts at the parking lot next to the 5 Torri chairlift; follow the signposts of the hiking trail no. 425, an easy path leading slightly uphill through a larch and spruce forest. When you come out of the forest after about an hour, a breathtaking panorama opens up.
From here you can choose one of the following two options:

1st option. Walk on path 425 to the foot of the 5 Torri, there pass between the rock monoliths and thus reach the Scoiattoli Refuge, approx. 45 minutes

2nd option. After a rest at the Cinque Torri Refuge, follow path no. 439 (a forest road) that leads to the saddle and the Scoiattoli Refuge in about 45 minutes.
