The Averau Refuge is a popular stop on the Dolomites High Route No. 1 and the centre of many hiking routes. It is located on the slopes of the 5 Torri - Giau ski area.
This refuge is easily accessible on foot, on skis or by chairlift from the Fedare refuge on the Giau pass road. It is situated on the route of the ski tours Super8 and The Great War.
The Averau Refuge is owned by the Siorpaes family and run by Sandrone and his children Margot and Matteo, hence the welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Their pride is the excellent cuisine, which prepares tasty dishes which can be enjoyed on the panoramic terrace with a stunning view of the Civetta and Marmolada mountains.
It is an excellent starting point for a visit to the WW1 open-air museum and for hikes of various levels of difficulty, as well as for climbing tours and equipped climbing routes. Two classic Via Ferratas are the moderately difficult Averau and de Ra Gusela, both offering breathtaking views. Climbers can tackle the climbing routes of Mount Averau, the climbing walls of the 5 Torri and the new crag Averau Sud - Renato De Pol Renè.
There are many routes with different levels of difficulty for 2-wheel enthusiasts. The lifts are equipped for bike transport, the Averau refuge has a video-monitored bicycle storage with a compressor, water pipe, tools for minor repairs and a charging station for e-bikes.
